MX Nats Rnd 7 Wodonga - Gibbs grabs 2nd
Monday, 4 July 2011
JetPilot team rider Kirk Gibbs has claimed second spot on the podium at the MX Nationals held in Wodonga this weekend. Round 7 of the 9 round series. Gibbs, who placed first in two of the four motos of the round, now affirms his position as outright second on the overall MX Nats Pro Lites leader board.
Matt Moss stretched his championship lead in the Motul Pro Lites with a consistent day of two 3rd and two 2nd places to return to the top step of the podium.
"It was a great day, the team have been sticking behind me with the last couple of rounds being up and down but it was good to get it done this weekend," Moss said.
"We are gunning for that championship, we want it and really need it so i hope we can do that. My fitness isn't an issue, the first motos where pretty smooth but once it got rough my bike handled awesome. I got crappy starts all day but i fought past a lot of riders so it's good to be standing up on the top spot of the box and leaving with a win," he concluded.
Runner up Kirk Gibbs had trouble in the opening two motos but came home strong with two wins in the final two motos, ending the day with a 5-7-1-1 score card.
"I had that unreal round at Murray Bridge and since then have just struggled with a few little things and starts," Gibbs said. "It was better today, i didn't have the best first two motos but came out swinging in the last two and got it done."
The Serco Yoshimura Yamaha rider is still a faint championship hope despite being 58 points down on Moss in the championship.
"It's not over but i just want to have a clear mind and take it race by race and not even think about the championship. Obviously Matt's got a big points lead and anything van happen so we will see what happens," Gibbs concluded.
Fellow team rider Josh Cachia didn't fair so well, but still notched a solid effort to finish 11th overall on the day.
