It put him in hospital for months but brave Maryborough cystic fibrosis sufferer Coen Ashton's epic jet-ski ride along the Murray River to boost organ donation has won him the national Child of Courage medal at the national Pride of Australia awards.
Coen, 14, received his award from Packed to the Rafters star Rebecca Gibney, one of several high-profile Australians to attend the gala black-tie event in Sydney last night honouring everyday people who do extraordinary things.
During Coen's 2000km, seven-week jet-ski ride, more than 1000 people signed up to become organ donors.
He also won the inaugural Duracell People's Choice medal, which comes with a special plaque and $10,000.
