Adam Monea

Victorian motocross ace Adam Monea scored his first win for 2012 at the fourth round of the Australian Motocross Championship season, in Wanneroo, WA yesterday.

Monea, is in his comeback season of full time MX Nationals MX2 class competition, since having two seasons off. The emphatic win was his first since 2008 and earned him a solid third place overall for the round.

Showing great speed all weekend on the sandy Wanneroo circuit. Monea qualified fourth fastest on Saturday, before being fastest by a full second in Sunday’s warm up session.

In the first of the two ‘back to back’ 15 minute races, Monea recovered from a minor fall to place seventh. Race two, saw the 23 year old from Koo Wee Rup finish a solid fifth place.

When the gate dropped for the final 30 minute moto, Monea headed into the first turn in second place, behind fellow Victorian Kade Mosig. Wasting no time, he made the pass into the lead and never looked back.

On what is arguably the roughest and toughest track on the MX Nationals circuit, Monea won by a dominating 17 seconds and moved himself into a podium position for the round.

“That was toughest track I’ve ridden on in a very long time, if not ever!” Monea said.

“I just put my head down and focused on putting down solid laps. I could see on my pit board I was pulling a little lead, which helped my confidence. When I could feel myself getting tired towards the end, I knew the guys behind me would be hurting too.”

Earning his first win for the season, just four rounds into his comeback season is a breakthrough for Monea and the refreshed Zero Seven Motorsports team.

“I feel like I’ve been putting in the training and preparation for this season. It feels just awesome to be back in the winner’s circle and put the Zero Seven team on the podium for the round. I’ll do my best to keep the momentum going in Murray Bridge next week!”

Monea currently sits seventh in the MX2 class championship standings after four of ten rounds with just 9 points separating him from a top three ranking in the series. The Monster Energy MX Nationals continues in Murray Bridge, South Australia next Sunday May 20.
