Josh Cachia gets podium at MX Nats Rnd 1

Tuesday, 15 March 2011

Current Australian Under 19’s Motocross Champion Josh Cachia, has stunned his rivals with an impressive moto win and third place overall, in Round One of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals on Sunday.

Cachia elected not to defend his under 19’s championship, in order to compete against the best 250cc riders in the country; riding for the factory backed JDR Motorex KTM Team. The move has paid dividends already, with the local from Kilmore, Victoria proving he has the capability to run with the series veterans.

When the gate dropped in the first Pro Lite class moto of the year, Cachia launched out to the holeshot, leading all but two laps- before being edged out 2008 series champion and KTM team mate Matt Moss. The second of the two ‘back to back’ motos however did not go to plan for Cachia, with a first turn crash ending any hopes of a repeat performance. Instead the battered and bruised youngster had to settle for a disappointing 17th place result.

Fighting through the pain from being run over in his earlier first turn incident -  moto three was all Cachia. The 19 year old again pulling a near perfect start and holeshot to lead the pack through turn one- and he never looked back. Despite a late charge by Moss, Cachia maintained his nerve and took his first ever pro class moto win.

“I felt so good to get out there and get my first ever win, especially so early in the year. I've really put my head down and bum up to be ready for this year- I have an awesome bike and team around me thanks to JDR Motorex KTM- I hope to win plenty more races for them!" Josh Cachia said.

In the final moto of the day a sore Cachia fought hard for a steady 6th place finish, cementing third place overall and a JDR Motorex KTM Team whitewash of the podium- first overall went to Matt Moss and Brendan Harrison finished a consistent day second.

Fellow JetPilot team rider Kirk Gibbs slotted into 6th overall on the day after crashing out in two seperate races but performing well in others to leave him in the middle of the field.
