Queensland based Freestyle Motocross professional Steve Mini, has made his return to performing after sustaining a serious leg injury in January.

Mini broke an agonising seven bones in his right ankle, after parting ways with his Yamaha YZ250 during a practice jump on January 8 at a private practise facility close to him home on the Gold Coast. The impact caused by the accident was so great, that the ‘fibular bone’ was shattered requiring multiple plates and screws to reconstruct it. Both the tibia and fibular bones were also compound fractures, which lead to major blood loss an even more complicated surgery and following recovery time. Mini also suffered sever concussion in the accident.

After many hours of intense rehab and physio therapy, Mini’s dedication to his recovery never wavered. Due to the long recovery he spent only three days practising before confirming his return at the famous ‘Sydney Royal Easter Show,’ which ran from April 1st to 14th. Freestyle Motocross and the Showtime Yamaha Team have been a major draw card to the Easter Show for many years and 2010 was no exception. The team performed a total of 28 shows over 14 days in front of a staggering 56,000 estimated total spectators. 

Despite the almost non existent preparation time, Mini wowed spectators immediately with his extensive array of both upright and inverted (backflip) trick combinations.

“I’m so pumped to be back out riding again. Its been a really hard three months, but I’ve come back more motivated than ever and I’m really exited about the year to come!” Steve Mini said. 

“I’d really like to thank all my sponsors for sticking by me and everyone who has sent me messages of encouragement. It means a lot to me and has always helped keep me positive and motivated to get back on the bike.” 

Currently ranked 8th in the FIM World FMX Championships, Mini will focus his attention for the remainder of 2010 on performing alongside action sports legend Travis Pastrana, in the all new ‘Nitro Circus Live Tour’ of Australia which kicks off on May 7 in Brisbane; as well as other major national and international events. Australian Robbie Maddison has once again put his fears behind him and jumped the Corinth Canal in Greece, he is the first rider to jump the 285ft gap. This jump comes in a long procession of long distance and world record breaking jumps for maddo, now it is a matter of where to next. Maddo is off to Mexico City to contest the first round of the Red Bull X-Fighters.
